Blessing Boxes

A Blessing Box Rooted in Community and Memories - OUR FIRST BOX.

As part of Alex's Birthday Project 2024, Something for Alex celebrated the installation of its first Blessing Box at Thomson First Methodist Church.

This special box carries a unique connection to the community's history. Designed and built by Trey Newton, the Blessing Box was crafted to resemble the historic Murray House, a place where generations of local children, including members of the Newton family and many others, spent countless hours making memories.

The design serves as a tribute to the history of the property where the Blessing Box now stands. Thanks to the generosity of those who donated the land for its use, the box not only provides food and essential items to neighbors in need but also honors the legacy of a place that brought people together for decades.

Today, the Blessing Box continues that tradition of community, offering hope, kindness, and support to anyone who may need it.

Students Building a Legacy of Service

Following the success of the first Blessing Box, Something for Alex expanded the project through a special partnership with the CTAE Program at Thomson High School.

The second and third Blessing Boxes were designed and built by Thomson High School students, giving them the opportunity to apply their skills while making a meaningful impact in their community. Through the partnership, students gained hands-on experience in construction and craftsmanship while creating a resource that would serve neighbors in need.

These boxes represent more than wood and nails, they represent service, compassion, and the power of young people making a difference. The collaboration showcased how schools, nonprofits, and community partners can work together to create lasting change.

The Thomson High School CTAE students didn't just build Blessing Boxes; they helped build a stronger, more caring community.

Heart Wood Partnerships Expanding Hope

As the Blessing Box Project continued to grow, Something for Alex partnered with Heart Wood Products to bring two more Blessing Boxes to the community, one at the Warrenton Chamber of Commerce and another at the Thomson YMCA.

Through Heart Wood Products' sponsorship and support, these boxes were placed in locations that serve as community gathering places, making essential items more accessible to individuals and families who may need a helping hand.

The Blessing Box at the Warrenton Chamber of Commerce expanded the project's reach into Warren County, while the box at the Thomson YMCA created another opportunity for neighbors to support one another in McDuffie County.

These installations are a testament to what can happen when local businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations work together toward a common goal. Every Blessing Box represents more than a structure—it represents kindness, generosity, and the belief that everyone deserves access to basic necessities.

We are grateful to Heart Wood Products, the Warrenton Chamber of Commerce, and the Thomson YMCA for helping make these projects possible and for joining us in our mission to spread hope throughout our communities.
